DESCRIPTION:

This trail is all day journey through the island’s interior and its pure, silence and complete state.

The trail begins at Estrada Transversal, nearby the forest services’ house, and ends in the parish of Ribeirinha.

Along the trail, we will go to the lakes of Caiado, Lagoa Seca, Lagoas Laje, Lagoas do Peixinho, Lagoa do Paúl, Lagoa Lopes, Lagoa Negra, Lagoa José Inacio, Lagoa Sardos, Lagoa Padre Gloria. There are also some high-altitude pastures.

We also go through the Caveiro Nature Reserve.

In this area, there are mosses and rushes (Sphagnum sp., Eleocharis multicaulis and Juncus sp.), holly (Ilex perado ssp.azorica) and Azores Juniper (Juniperus brevifolia). As regards fauna, we will see the Western Azores Goldcrest (Regulus regulus inermis), blackbirds (Turdus merula azorensis), woodcocks (Scolopax rusticola), among others. When visibility is good it is possible to see the islands of São Jorge and Terceira.

DON'T FORGET:

Since the weather in the mountains is changing, do not forget confortable and waterproof clothes, hat or cap and mountain boots, if you decided to climb one of the craters during our trip,you'll be grateful for the sticks during descent down.

Also take along in your rucksack raincoat, sunscreen.

Do not forget water, a little something to eat like a little chocolate or a sandwich before lunch, you might need.

Swimming during this trail: this activity is not included in the program of our tours but there is possibility. In case you want to refresh in one of the natural pools, please mention it in your order.
