DESCRIPTION:

This small linear route starts near the Terra Alta scenic viewpoint, located between the villages of Ribeirinha and Santo Amaro, and finishes in the centre of Santo Amaro. We start descending a path through a wood, where incense trees are the predominant species. Along the way, we find the remains of vineyard currais (rectangular plots) which are a sign of the importance of this trail. This belvedere located in Ladeira da Terra Alta is one of the most beautiful belvederes on Pico island. From it's height of 415 meters we are watching the surprise before image in front of us, just in front and across the sea we can see São Jorge island.
We enter an area of small agricultural fields, increasingly dominated by the typical small-scale vineyards of Pico Island. In this area we will come across an abandoned house that once was a small factory of local butter, which still features the manufacturing equipment inside.
When we come close to the coastal area, we make a small diversion to reach the Baía do Canto, a small leisure area near the sea surrounded by local wine cellars. Back on the main track, we continue always near the coast along a tarmac road heading to the centre of Santo Amaro.

We pass by the Parque da Furada, a picnic area where we stop for home made lunch and tasting red wine & cheese.

After picnic and short brake we visit the Museu Marítimo de Construção Naval (Maritime Museum of Naval Construction) and the Escola de Artesanato (Handicraft School) already in Santo Amaro, the former naval construction centre of the archipelago.
